Features (Detail)
AutoCAD® 2004 Support and ACIS Solids Import/Export
AutoCAD 2004 compatibility, support for AutoCAD viewports and paperspace, batch DXF/DWG translation, DXF/DWG 3D Solids Support, Import/Export ACIS/SAT are just a few of the new and improved Import/Export options you'll find in VectorWorks 11.
Better Text Tools
Save time by editing text blocks directly from within the Object Info palette. You can change the font, point size, style, alignment, and spacing for any selected text block right in the Object Info palette. What could be easier?Plus you'll find a completely redesigned Callout tool that is more flexible and easier to use. Additional drawing modes give you more control over how callouts are drawn, and a new symbol option allows you to create custom markers.
Easy Database and Spreadsheet Functions
VectorWorks does much more than just design. With built-in database and spreadsheet capabilities, you don't need a separate program to track your project's costs and materials--VectorWorks will do it for you. Easily attach information, such as manufacturer, size, part number, order and pricing information to objects in your drawing. This information can be accessed at any time during the design process and can be used to generate schedules, Bills of Material, and other reports. And, because the information and the drawings are linked, any changes to the design will automatically be updated in your paperwork.
Flexible Classing Options
A new document preference allows you to assign dimensions to any active class, as opposed to forcing them into a default dimension class. Now when you create a group, it is automatically set to the currently active class, as opposed to the None class in previous versions. Plus, new dialogs make it easier to manage layer and class visibilities.
In-Document Texture Editing
It's a breeze to manipulate textures and increase productivity with a dramatically streamlined RenderWorks interface. A cleaner, more intelligent Mapping dialog box gives you much greater control over how textures map to 3D objects. And, the most common mapping and texture editing options can be quickly accessed via a new Render tab on the Object Info palette. Changes made through the Object Info palette are seen in real time. RenderWorks 11 is a must-have for anyone creating 3D renderings
Intelligent Object Technology
Now, instead of simple lines and static blocks, you can interact with your design on an entirely new level. Cutting-edge Object Technology, a feature typically reserved for programs that cost thousands more, makes it easy to create and change design elements without having to redraw them. Want to see the ramifications of using a 6' bi-part door rather than a standard 3' simple swing? No problem-simply type in your changes and VectorWorks will automatically update the design. It's so easy that you can make complex design changes on the fly, in front of clients. And, because most objects in VectorWorks display in 3D as well as 2D, you'll be automatically creating 3D models of the design as you draw.
New Artistic Rendering Effects and Support For QuickTime® VR
New artistic rendering modes allow you to produce non-photorealistic effects that soften hard lines and mimic many hand-sketched styles, including cartoon, color wash, contour, tapered lines, hatch, ink print, lines and shadows, mosaic, oil painting, overlapping lines, soft lines, and stipple. Plus, both the Macintosh© and Windows© version of RenderWorks 11 support Apple's QuickTime Virtual Reality technology. QuickTime VR adds another dimension to your presentation capabilities by allowing you to create realistic 3D panoramas from your models that can be navigated without any special hardware or software. And, because QTVR is automatically web-enabled, you can easily post your QTVR scenes to your website.
New Context-sensitive Online Help
Even the best CAD designers get stuck every now and then. With new context-sensitive help, you'll never have to stop and consult your manual again. Any question you may have can be easily answered from within VectorWorks' new help system. Loaded with detailed step-by-step instructions and comprehensive graphics, VectorWorks 11's help system is a faster and more convenient way to get answers to your questions.
New Trim & Extend Capabilities
A new mode in the Split tool makes trimming objects fast and easy. The new Trim Line mode allows you to split objects with a line, and gesture to select which side of the split you want to keep. Plus, the Connect/Combine tool can now extend multiple lines with a single click. A great time saver!
Smaller File Sizes and Faster Hidden Line Rendering
New image compression technology significantly decreases the file size of VectorWorks drawings that contain bitmap images. Now, files that contain bitmaps will open more quickly, save faster, take up less hard drive space, and are generally easier to work with. Plus, rendering in VectorWorks Hidden Line modes can be up to 40% faster.
Viewports
Advanced page layout features make it easy to arrange multiple views of your design on a single drawing sheet. Each view of the design, or "viewport", can have its own scale, orientation, projection, and rendering option, as well as layer and class visibility settings-making it easy to create drawing sheets that are comprised of multiple views of your design. For added flexibility, viewports can be cropped by any shape and have the ability to be annotated separately, which makes creating detailed or enlarged plan views a very simple and straight-forward process.
Word Processing Features
Powerful word processing features make it simple to create single lines or blocks of text. You can change the font, color, size, style, alignment, spacing, and capitalization of text blocks. Support for tabs makes it easy to create tables and paste in formatted text copied from word processing and spreadsheet applications. And, to help ensure accurate spelling and easy editing, VectorWorks includes a spelling checker and Find and Replace features. Plus, you can convert TrueType fonts into Polylines, which can then be extruded to create text in 3D.
